In Nairobi, a historic step for inclusive education in Africa took place today: LM International in partnership with the Interim Steering Committee launched the Inclusive Education Hub for Africa, uniting people from across the continent around a question with life-changing stakes: what will it take for every child with a disability to learn, belong and thrive?
Hosted by LM International’s Regional Hub Africa, the Hub connects governments, educators, organisations of persons with disabilities, families, researchers and civil society to share expertise and help turn commitments to inclusive education into change in classrooms and communities.
The launch drew leaders from government and the development community, including Fred Haga of Kenya’s Directorate of Special Needs Education, EALA MP Hon. David Ole Sankok and Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle and was covered by Kenyan media including The Standard, Kenyan Report, KBC and KTN.
As Hon. David Ole Sankok said: ‘For Africa, the power [of education] must belong to every child, including every child with disability.’
LM is humbled to help facilitate a platform shaped by the expertise, leadership and lived experience of people and organisations working for the right of every child with a disability to learn and thrive.
